09 March 2012.
The boys set off on an epic 36 hours away for a 45 minute set. Questions were asked amongst the masses about whether it was worth all the hassle, but in hindsight that is a resounding Yes. Ian was away on baby duties, so Glen Conroy very kindly learnt all the songs and dance manoeuvres in preparation for the event so off we went. Was a fairly uneventful journey up for most of us, despite Rob driving via the North Pole (look out the windscreen Rob, not just at the Satvav!).
All arrived safely, gear dropped of at the huge (gulp!) Red stage, then a few beers to calm the nerves. After that we had a few more beers for good luck, it was time to go for it. First band of the evening were the marvellous True Brit, kicking out the likes of Oasis, Blur etc. (fronted by the talented Paul Higginson from the Stereotonics nonetheless!). Second on with the house now packed were our old friends, 911, and then it was our time.
45 minutes and 11 songs were order of the day. We wacked out the favourites, the most upbeat songs and this set seemed to work just fine. From our point of view, was a bit nerve racking and had a bit of a problem hearing ourselves on stage, but we ploughed on like the troopers we are and got a cracking response from the many people who are there. How many were there you ask? 2000? 2500? Anyone’s guess, but it was a lot…
47 minutes later it was all over. Pats on back, more drinks to be had then the long journey back down south the next morning (after getting kicked out of our room by the cleaners like naughty boys).
Finally a massive thanks to Glen for filling in on guitar duties – a job well done indeed. Also thanks to Paul Higginson for supporting our band in every sense and bigging us up.
Respect. x.
